The purpose of this job is:
Lead accounting decisions for capitalisation of software development projects and across the leasing portfolio for Bupa Asia Pacific. Support accounting judgements and financial reporting across health insurance, aged care and retirement living and health services.
How will I help?
- Capitalisation of software development costs – Develop understanding of digital project initiatives, apply accounting standards and Bupa accounting policies to assess capitalisation, provide guidance, communicate conclusions to the business, document assessments and liaise with external auditors.
- Lease accounting – Lead the end-to-end process for lease accounting and reporting, including system improvements and process optimisation as well as forecasting lease costs.
- Accounting advice – Support providing technical accounting advice to Finance and to the business, including supporting projects to prepare for changes to accounting standards and advising on potential financial, process and system impacts. Most importantly, ensuring compliance with accounting standards whilst achieving commercially optimal outcomes and communicating complex accounting concepts to stakeholders.
- Board Audit Committee reporting – Draft matters for disclosure to the Board Audit Committee.
- Insights and analytics – Create a data-driven narrative to effectively communicate insights from accounting analysis and data quality reviews to help Bupa drive change.
- Financial & Management reporting – Support delivery of financial and management reporting where required. Notably, reviewing financial statements and commentaries to ensure adherence to regulatory and accounting standard requirements whilst being consistently presented across the business
- External audit – Assist in managing the year-end, half-year and interim audit processes. Liaise with external auditors to understand scope, timing and audit evidence required.
- Continuous improvements initiatives – Work on dedicated project streams to develop local capabilities and embed new processes. Communicate progress, key decision points or dependencies and highlight risks to key stakeholders. • Maintain and update reporting process ad controls documentation (IMS).
What you’ll need to make it possible:
- CA or CPA qualification
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a financial accounting, external audit or accounting advisory role.
- Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities including a proven track recording of analysing, transforming and interpreting data to effectively communicate outcomes and draw actionable insights.
- Advance use of excel to review and analyse data and model accounting outcomes.
- Technical accounting skills, are preferable, including an ability to independently research and advise on accounting treatments for complex transactions, where there is ambiguity or judgement required.
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
