Diversity & Inclusion:
Embracing what makes each of us unique

We’re a team of extraordinary individuals with one big heart in the shape of a little blue cube. When you join Bupa, you’ll be a part of a culture that’s meant for everyone. This means we’re continually building an environment that embraces all experiences, all voices and all backgrounds. It’s not just ticking boxes. Life at Bupa is all about enhancing your wellbeing and sense of belonging, no matter who you are on the outside or inside. Because supporting you to show your full potential, will let you add your own shine to an inclusive culture we are all proud to be part of.

The thing I like about Bupa is its people. It is a very diverse workplace where everyone welcomes you and helps you reach your potential. I feel valued and cared for by my peers and my leaders, because the doors are always open and my opinion is taken into account.

Marcela Store Leader

Bupa values commitment to its people, regardless of background. A progressive focus on health, including disability, Bupa makes it a priority to set the standard on focussing, rather than judging. The notion of acceptance, inclusion, and bringing one’s uniqueness and authenticity, is how Bupa operates.

Inclusion and inspiration

An inclusive culture means you are:

  • 5 times more likely to innovate.
  • 5 times more likely to be very satisfied with your job.
  • 3 times more likely to provide excellent customer service.
  • 2 times more likely to receive regular career development opportunities.

Because the future
belongs to us all

With an emphasis on inclusive leadership, our commitment to belonging starts from the top. We welcome like-minded people who share our vision to create an inspiring and transformative environment where people from diverse backgrounds will flourish and shape our future. This way, we will continue to build a community for all and a culture that we can all celebrate every day.

Partnerships
paving the way

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) program, Australia Network on Disability, Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) compliant, Diversity Council Australia, Pride in Diversity, Vision Australia, Kids Helpline, Victorian Employer Enablement Project (VEEP), Paralympics Australia.

LGBTQ+ Inclusion

Bupa cares about creating and sustaining an inclusive workplace for LGBTQ+ employees where team members feel they belong regardless of gender identity, including how one chooses to express it, and sexual orientation.

Some of the ways that Bupa supports the community includes;

  • Continuing to benchmark the progress and impact of our LGBTQ+ inclusion initiatives through the Australian Workplace Equality index, and in 2022, Bupa was recognised as a Bronze Tier Employer for LGTBQ+ inclusion
  • Membership with Pride in Diversity
  • Ongoing inclusion and allyship training
  • The Pride Advocacy Group acknowledges and celebrates annual days of significance for the LGBTQ+ community such as IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple Day with a range of internal events and opportunities.
LGBTQ+ Inclusion

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Our vision for reconciliation is an Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enjoy equity and equality, and are living longer, healthier, happier lives as we work together to make a better world. To achieve this vision, we will couple our health and care expertise with a commitment to working with, and learning from, First Nations peoples, communities, and organisations. Our RAP focuses on four key areas where we believe we can make a meaningful contribution to reconciliation: First Nations health outcomes, Sustainable careers, Supplier diversity, and Cultural learning.

Bupa

At Bupa, we have four employee networks (so far!)

The Pride group for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, the Access and Inclusion group for employees with lived experience of disability, carers and allies, and the First Nations Australian group for employees who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and allies, and the Women at Bupa group for women, those who identify as non-binary and allies. Our Employee Advocacy Groups are a safe place for people with lived experience to come together as a community to influence change for a more inclusive workplace.
