The purpose of this job

We are seeking an experiencedTechnology Senior Project Managerto lead and deliver complex technology initiatives from concept through to implementation. 

The Technology Senior Project Manager plays a pivotal role within Bupa’s Health Insurance Product Operations function, acting as the primary conduit between business and technology to orchestrate the successful delivery of critical compliance‑driven initiatives and product releases. This role exists to ensure regulatory, operational, and customer commitments are met through disciplined execution, effective change management, and strong cross‑functional coordination. By leading technology team allocation, guiding day‑to‑day delivery activities, and building trusted relationships with key business and technology stakeholders, the role enables safe, timely, and high‑quality technology outcomes that protect customers, support regulatory obligations, and sustain the integrity of Bupa’s health insurance products. 

In this role, you will bring strong project leadership, technical understanding, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve strategic business objectives. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams of approximately 20–40 people, including Technology Manager, Head of Product, Product Managers, Business and Technology Analysts, Engineers, SMEs, and specialist technology resources, ensuring alignment and momentum across delivery. 

Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead the delivery of multiple large-scale, complex technology initiatives concurrently, ensuring outcomes are achieved within scope, budget ($500K–$5M+) and agreed timelines. 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans covering scheduling, resourcing, risk management, dependencies, and communications. 
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to clearly define objectives, scope, success measures, and deliverables. 
  • Monitor and report on progress using fit-for-purpose tools and methodologies, proactively resolving issues and maintaining delivery velocity. 
  • Manage project financials, including forecasting, budget control, and regular reporting to support fiscal governance and transparency. 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary interface between executive sponsors, business stakeholders, and technical delivery teams. 
  • Facilitate regular project governance and stakeholder forums, providing clear, transparent updates on progress, risks, and decisions. 
  • Balance and align competing stakeholder priorities, resolving conflicts and negotiating outcomes aligned to strategic goals. 
  • Confidently present status, risks, and recommendations to senior leaders and C‑level stakeholders. 

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams of 20–40 contributors, including internal staff and external delivery partners. 
  • Mentor and coach project managers and delivery team members to uplift capability and maturity across the function. 
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and outcome-focused team culture with a strong continuous improvement mindset. 
  • Provide performance feedback and support development and career progression within the delivery team. 
  • Identify, support, and develop emerging talent within the technology organisation. 

Risk & Quality Assurance

  • Proactively identify, assess, and manage risks, issues, and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Implement robust quality assurance practices to ensure solutions meet agreed business, technical, and regulatory standards. 
  • Develop contingency and change management strategies to maintain delivery resilience and agility. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance frameworks, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead post‑implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and strengthen future delivery. 

Process Optimisation & Innovation

  • Champion continuous improvement in project delivery frameworks, tools, and practices. 
  • Implement and maintain project management systems that provide transparency, control, and measurable outcomes. 
  • Define, track, and report on KPIs to drive accountability and delivery excellence. 
  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and innovative ways of working to enhance delivery effectiveness. 

What you’ll need to make it possible

  • 8+ years’ experience in technology project management, including 5+ years leading large-scale, complex enterprise initiatives valued at $2M+. 
  • Proven experience coordinating across engineering, QA, product, and DevOps teams to deliver technical solutions. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline. 
  • Formal Agile project management qualification; SAFe certification is highly regarded. 
  • Demonstrated success delivering projects on time and within budget across the full software development lifecycle. 
  • Strong practical experience with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models, including SAFe, DevOps, and SDLC frameworks. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with high complexity, cross-functional dependencies, and 20–40+ indirect reports. 
  • Solid capability in change management, risk mitigation, financial oversight, and milestone tracking. 
  • Experience leading RFP/RFI processes, managing vendors, and influencing senior stakeholders. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, and Confluence, with the ability to adapt tools to suit evolving delivery needs. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting and presentation. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on business outcomes and continuous improvement. 
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and modern technology environments. 
  • High proficiency in project management and delivery tools. 
  • Experience using collaboration platforms such as Confluence, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. 
  • Working knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and contemporary development methodologies. 
  • Sound understanding of data, infrastructure, and security principles. 
  • Expert-level capability in Microsoft Project and Agile delivery tools such as Azure DevOps.
