The Heart of the Role

The Quality and Education Manager is the dedicated expert responsible to support the delivery and evaluation of  quality activities, working collaboratively with the CMs to implement improvements, coordinate and where relevant, deliver education and support where required within the Care Home. The role will be supported by the Quality and Education Partner in line with current CM support

This role is part of the Care Home Leadership Team and will be a role model within the home, demonstrating the Bupa Values: Caring, Responsible and Brave. 

As our Roving QEM, reporting to the Bupa Villages and Aged Care (BVAC) Regional Manager, you will be required to fill short term vacant Quality Education Manager positions in NSW. You will lead the home in relation to quality care and services, ensuring quality governance, compliance and the competency of team members is delivered to achieve the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards and meet Bupa’s policies and processes, ensuring residents are aided to live longer, healthier, and happier lives. This role will be critical in assisting in identifying improvement opportunities as well as hands on support in remediating gaps, and coaching Care Home leadership team for sustainability. The role will identify and raise awareness of issues and areas of high risk in aged care, and facilitates practice improvement with a knowledge of legislative requirements relating to Healthcare 

In addition, you will provide quality focused leadership and coaching by:

  • Observation of team members while they are delivering care and services;
  • Providing guidance in relation to documentation/recording to ensure care and services provided meets expected outcomes – this includes an evaluation of effectiveness of interventions;         
  • Assists staff to improve their ability to reflect on and critically analyse their practice 
  • Supports the RN to assist carers to identify and rectify gaps in their practice
  • Develops team members knowledge and understanding of expectations of practice within the framework of the Aged Care Quality Standards and their own scope of practice
  • Assisting employees with development of skills in delivering safe and effective care and services that meets the Residents needs
  • Identifies areas of employees skills/knowledge that require further learning/competency development and create a plan to achieve this
  • Provide opportunity for group discussion to ensure individualised care using a standardised approach to care from all employees – includes group learning opportunities based on real time case studies/experiences and best practice evidence
  • Provide education, guidance and support for individuals who are performing the delegated activity 
  • Have ownership of the Commission Readiness activities , ensuring the care home and team members are prepared through preparedness activities, and maintain currency of the Commission Entry Questions. 
  • Maintain the Care Home’s Plan for Continuous Improvement (PCI) in collaboration with leadership team  Meet monthly or more frequently with the GM and CM’s to review and track progress of PCI items. 
  • Be responsible for completing the month end Quality Indicator Report, including analysing data, discussing and articulating insights with CMs and GMs, and ensuring improvements are transferred to the PCI and implemented.
  • Be responsible for ensuring Government NQIP (National Quality Indicator) program data is submitted in line with Bupa timeframes, and analysed, with any improvements documented and actioned. 
  • Works with the CMs and regional Funding Coordinator to ensure any clinical gaps identified through AN-ACC activities are addressed and actioned.
  • Meets with the Care Home IPC lead and CMs regularly to ensure that support, implementation and CI of Bupa’s infection prevention and control policies, processes and practices. 
  • Is the Care Home lead in the Bupa Grad Nurse Program, ensuring that each RN with limited experience has a structured on-boarding and ongoing development program.
  • Coordinates the completion of all monthly Care Home Audits within the Operations Essential audit program. Analyses in conjunction with the CM and GM, monitoring of completion of all audit outcomes with PCI development in response to gaps identified
  • Ensures in collaboration with the CM’s that the Registered Nurse takes responsibility for 
  • Ensuring that the Resident is always the focus when leading the delivery of ‘Person-First’ care 
  • The management and delivery of the highest quality clinical care of Residents person centred care for residents, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administers and manages medication in accordance with resident needs and legislative requirements

Adheres to all internal and external policy and regulation by: 

  • maintaining accurate records and documentation consistent with policy, legislation, and privacy requirements 
  • Role models culturally competent, resident centred care
  • Applies the principles of antimicrobial stewardship
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standard, and guidelines including but not limited to SIRS and mandatory reporting

  • Participating in training and education as required by Bupa
  • Directing self in professional learning opportunities, seeking input from colleagues, peers, and external training organisations
  • Maintains competency and currency of clinical skills and knowledge
  • Maintains currency of registration with AHPRA
  • Maintaining own eLearning program.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor of Nursing with current APHRA is essential.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Aged Care and Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) is desirable.
  • Proven track record in delivering quality clinical care, coaching, delivering training.
  • Ability to foster a team environment and build collaborative relationships.
  • Highly effective communication, leadership, and relationship management skills
  • An understanding of Resident Rights, Aged Care Accreditation Standards and Outcomes
