The Actuary will be responsible for pricing new products and benefit changes, providing profitability analysis insights for both the domestic and international portfolios, identifying claim drivers and projecting product performance.

The role will also require collaboration with other areas of Bupa and other actuaries, critical thinking to challenge existing methods and processes, and project management to assist with end-to-end delivery of models and their application. The role will also involve identifying insights and opportunities to assist business units optimise the business, and communicating findings to stakeholders.

How will I help?

  • Developing and evolving models and algorithms to apply to datasets and monitor predictive ability across diverse data analytics-focused projects
  • Assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques, to augment current data sources with other internal and external databases improving model accuracy and provide additional insights
  • Provide thought leadership and strategic advice to the business in interpretation of model results
  • Identify and leverage potential insights and opportunities for optimising the business, by liaising with other business units
  • Active contributor to the annual premium application process
  • Partnering with members of the Actuarial team to deliver on other projects as required, e.g. financial projections and reporting, budgeting, premium application, provisions and capital management, and assisting with the preparation of the annual Financial Condition Report
  • Preparation of Actuarial Advice as required under the Actuarial Advice Framework to the business or Board.

What do I need?

  • Fellow of Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA)
  • More than 2 years of post-qualification (FIAA) work experience
  • Actuarial experience with a large Australian health insurer is desirable 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a proven track record of being able to work with non-actuaries and with different levels of management
