Bupa is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Health Insurance (HI) Financial Remediation team. This is a fantastic permanent opportunity to play a critical role in shaping how remediation data is engineered, governed, and delivered—supporting fair, accurate, and auditable outcomes for our customers.

Reporting to the Data and Automation Manager, this role sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and regulatory delivery. You will help uplift data practices, ensure data integrity, and deliver robust solutions in a complex, highly regulated environment.

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will take ownership of remediation data assets and play a key role in enabling high-quality data solutions that support remediation programs. You will work closely with stakeholders across business and technology to ensure data is fit-for-purpose, defensible, and aligned to governance standards, while also contributing to continuous improvement in data engineering practices and ways of working.

You will:

  • Design, build and maintain high-quality remediation data solutions aligned to engineering and governance standards
  • Own and manage remediation data assets, ensuring accuracy, completeness and auditability
  • Develop and optimise data pipelines, transformations and data models across platforms
  • Apply strong dimensional modelling and ETL design practices
  • Translate complex business rules into clear, robust and auditable SQL logic
  • Support remediation initiatives through effective data design, reporting and performance tracking
  • Manage and prioritise data backlog in alignment with team and program priorities
  • Drive best practices in coding, testing, documentation and data governance
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to Data Analysts
  • Partner with stakeholders across business and technology to manage risks and deliver outcomes
  • Identify and manage data-related risks, ensuring timely resolution and escalation
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of data platforms, tooling and processes

Ideal Candidate Background

The ideal candidate will bring strong data engineering capability combined with analytical thinking and experience working in complex or regulated environments.

You will have a proven ability to design scalable data solutions, translate business requirements into data logic, and support delivery of high-impact initiatives such as remediation or transformation programs.

Experience in health insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries will be highly regarded.

About You

You are a detail-oriented and technically strong Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across both delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.

You will bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, analytics, or software engineering
  • Strong hands-on SQL expertise (essential)
  • Experience with dimensional data modelling and ETL design
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms (e.g. Databricks or similar)
  • Proven ability to translate complex business rules into auditable data logic
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Ability to coach and uplift others through technical guidance and collaboration
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data, or a related discipline

Highly desirable:

  • Experience supporting remediation programs or regulatory initiatives
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and automated testing
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and controls
  • Background in healthcare, insurance, or financial services
