Head of Regulatory Engagement and Incident Management

The opportunity:
We have a Head of Regulatory Engagement and Incident Management role available in the APAC Compliance and Conduct Risk team. This role will be responsible for the APAC regulator engagement strategy and overseeing the identification, assessment, and remediation of compliance related issues and incidents, ensuring we meet all regulatory obligations while fostering a strong compliance culture across APAC.
In this role, you will be leading the development and execution of Bupa’s Regulatory Engagement Strategy and responsible for embedding the Regulatory Engagement Standard across APAC, ensuring effective, transparent, and appropriate communication with key regulators. Working as a trusted advisor to the APAC Director of Compliance and Conduct Risk, you’ll provide insights on regulatory priorities, engagement strategies, and emerging compliance risks. This role is instrumental in maintaining strong, constructive relationships with regulators, underpinned by integrity, transparency, and mutual respect.
You will also provide expert compliance advisory to business units on incident and breach management, support sustainable corrective actions, and ensure timely reporting of material incidents to the Board, senior management, and regulatory bodies. This will include assessing incidents against materiality thresholds and breach notification requirements in line with regulatory standards.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:
- 10+ years’ experience in 1st or 2nd lines of defence compliance roles in APRA regulated organisations.
- A strong understanding of APRA obligations.
- Extensive experience in regulatory engagement.
- Experience preparing compliance management information and insights to assist the business and Risk Committees with oversight of compliance risk.
- Experience managing regulatory change and working with the business to ensure controls are in place to manage compliance risk.
- Experience identifying and assessing compliance risks in existing processes and new business.
- Experience developing and executing compliance plans.
- Experience designing training and communications plans.
This is a permanent role that can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide.
We offer hybrid work arrangements, so you’ll have the flexibility to work from our office in the city at any of these locations or work from home.
How will I help?
You will add value by:
- Ensuring frameworks and processes are in place across business units to monitor, review, analyse and report on regulatory relationships across APAC.
- Monitoring and supporting effective Regulator relationships including coordinating and preparing for Regulator interactions i.e. meetings, or written correspondence.
- Support the business to develop and deliver clear transparent communication with Regulators with a view of Regulator engagements across the enterprise.
- Maintaining the Regulator register, reporting calendar and correspondence register.
- Leading the development of insights on regulatory priorities, engagement strategies, and emerging compliance risks.
- Advising Board & Senior Management on the status of regulatory relationships, regulatory engagement activity, communications, insights, and priorities.
- Supporting the business in identifying and recording compliance issues and incidents
- Ensuring that incident data is accurately mapped to risks, controls, obligations, processes, and treatment plans.
- Assessing the compliance incident impact and severity against materiality and breach notification requirements.
- Clearly identifying all relevant incident types (e.g. compliance, WHS, data, privacy) and ensure these are clearly identifiable and assigned to the appropriate SME for input.
- Supporting escalation pathways for logging issues, including adherence with required timeframes for promoting an issue to a higher level of criticality or closing it with no further action.
- Developing and maintaining Regulatory Engagement Standard and Strategy ensuring effective, transparent, and proactive communication with Bupa APAC’s regulators.
