The opportunity 

In this newly created role, the Operational Risk and Control Enablement Leader will drive the evolution of our Risk Management Framework within the People team at Bupa. As a leader, you'll spearhead the enhancement of our risk and control capabilities, ensuring Bupa stays resilient and proactive in managing risks. You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders to pinpoint potential risks, including emerging ones, and implement rigorous controls to mitigate them effectively. 

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the risk management landscape and foster a culture of proactive risk awareness and mitigation across the APAC People team. 

This is a permanent, full-time role and may be based at our Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane offices with very flexible working arrangements available, including hybrid working. 

How will I help?

You’ll collaborate with the People Leadership team to implement and execute a strategic, consistent and best practice People risk approach across Bupa APAC. As a member of the People Employee Governance team, you will create a risk aware and engaged culture within the People team by facilitating workshops, delivering training and educating stakeholders. 

In addition, you’ll add value by 

  • Leading the development and implementation of frameworks, systems, processes and practices that assist with mitigating risk. 
  • Provide relevant reporting and insights to key stakeholders on Bupa APAC’s People risk profile. 
  • Leverage data insights to identify focus areas and drive the development and delivery of an education program to uplift knowledge, thereby minimising Bupa’s employment risks, and ensuring best practice management of People Risk and Risk Culture. 

What do I need? 

We are seeking a senior risk professional with 5-7 years practical operational risk management experience, with some exposure to assessing risk for a HR/People function. It’s preferrable your experience has been gained within a regulated setting, such as insurance, health care or financial services. 

You’ll thrive when working as part of a collaborative team, fostering positive relationships as a trusted and respected hands-on risk business partner. 

Complimenting your professional experience will be your tertiary studies in Risk Management, Business, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or similar with Risk Management Accreditation (RIMS, RMIA or similar) highly regarded. Proficiency with GRC systems such as Protecht, SAI360 or Archer (or similar) would be advantageous, combined with meticulous attention to detail and sharp analytical skills.

In addition, you’ll bring:

  • Advanced analytical skills, adept at sourcing, synthesising, and critically analysing diverse data. 
  • An innovative mindset to create tailored solutions that meet Bupa’s progressive and innovative environment.
  • Proactive approach in influencing and collaborating with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including senior leaders and specialists. 
  • Be an exceptional communicator, to simplify complexities, enabling effective interactions across teams. 
  • Prioritise effectively and drive outcomes with a focused, results-oriented approach in a dynamic environment.
