Senior Cloud Operations Engineer
Melbourne, Australia
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Cloud Operations Engineer (AWS) plays a key role in designing, building, and operating Bupa’s AWS cloud platform at enterprise scale. This role specialises in AWS platform management and architecture, with a strong focus on secure multi-account design, standardised landing zones, and automated guardrails.
You will help evolve the AWS platform as an internal product, balancing governance, security, and cost controls with developer autonomy and delivery speed. Working closely with architecture, security, DevOps, SRE, FinOps, and delivery teams, you will shape how AWS services are safely and consistently consumed across the organisation.
This is a senior hands-on engineering role with strong expectations around AWS platform design leadership, infrastructure automation, and operational excellence.

- Develop reusable platform patterns, golden paths, and reference architectures for application teams.
- Balance security, compliance, and financial governance with developer experience and productivity.
- Continuously improve platform scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
DevOps, IaC & Automation
- Design, build, and maintain Terraform-based AWS infrastructure modules with strong standards for versioning, testing, and lifecycle management.

- Review and uplift infrastructure designs and pipelines across the Cloud Services team.
- Enable consistent, repeatable AWS environments through automation and self-service.
Reliability, Security & Operations
- Design AWS platform services with reliability, availability, scalability, and recoverability as first-class concerns.
- Define and implement observability standards (monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting).
- Embed security and compliance into AWS platform designs, pipelines, and defaults as part of a secure-by-design practice.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Partner with Security and Risk teams to implement governance controls through automation and policy.
Consulting, Collaboration & Influence
- Act as a trusted AWS platform advisor to architecture, delivery, and operations teams.
