Senior Contract Manager

The opportunity:
We have a great opportunity for a Senior Contract Manager to join our team.
In this role, you will play a key role in leading the development and execution of enterprise-wide contract management strategies across Bupa. This includes accountability for delivering best-value outcomes through effective supplier engagement, commercial negotiation, and proactive contract governance.
You will be a key support to the Head of Contract Management by providing insights, stepping in to resolve issues, acting as delegate when required to ensure continuity of operations and is a trusted advisor and mentor to the sourcing team.
We’re looking for someone who can bring deep contract knowledge and commercial management and the ability to assess, negotiate, and implement contract outcomes that align with Bupa’s operational needs, risk tolerance, and commercial goals.
This is a Melbourne-based permanent role with hybrid work arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively champion the development and execution of contract management strategies across the portfolio, contributing to the continuous improvement of Bupa’s enterprise-wide contract governance framework.
- Collaborate with the Head of Contract Management and Procurement Director to shape and refine enterprise-level contract management principles, policies, and standards.
- Leads by example in continuous development by actively engaging in professional development and procurement team learning initiatives.
- Lead end-to-end contract lifecycle activities for complex, high-value projects, including stakeholder engagement, contract strategy formulation, baseline validation, supplier negotiations, contract finalisation, and post-award management.
- Partner with Legal and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate contract drafting, review, and execution.
- Lead negotiation activities across the portfolio to secure favourable commercial and risk-aligned terms.
- Implement and drive supplier performance measures and be accountable for managing ongoing value delivery.
- Engaging and influencing a range of key business stakeholders to deliver outcomes. Key to this will be collaboration with key business stakeholders and other Procurement team members.
- Support the Head of Contract Management by partnering with stakeholders across the APAC business to resolve competing priorities as they arise, including acting as delegate when required, to ensure continuity of operations and decision making.

What do I need?
- Relevant graduate or post graduate qualifications in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Supply Chain Operations, Engineering or Law
- MCIPS (CIPSA) or Project Management (eg. PMP) qualifications highly regarded.
- 15+ years experience in Procurement and/or contract management, from strategy development to execution.
- Proven experience in leading successful commercial negotiations, with evidence of applied innovative thinking, negotiation skills, and strategic negotiation planning.
- Highly proficient in preparing and evaluating business cases, risk profiles and cost models.
- High levels of attention to detail and ability to test levels of transparency and/or accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and collaborate with cross-functional and indirect teams within the procurement function.
- Category experience crucial and industry knowledge preferred.
- Ability to articulate performance imperatives and hold partners accountable to service level agreements / resolve escalated issues.
- Experience with developing metrics, projections, and financial models.
- A strong understanding of customer experience and customer-centricity principles
- Ability to proactively take ownership and act with integrity to deliver required results
- Strong commercial business acumen and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas simply and influence at all levels and audiences within the organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders, working across organisational structures.
