As a Technology Leader at Bupa, you will lead the Domestic Retail and Digital engineering team in shaping Bupa’s digital and marketing landscape, delivering innovative solutions that enhance our customer experiences. This role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and a deep technical understanding. You will be responsible for leading high-performing managers and their teams across multiple locations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality applications and fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement. Your role will be pivotal in aligning team goals with organizational objectives, driving the adoption of modern technologies, and ensuring that all digital products and services meet the highest standards of quality and security. In this position, you will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including Delivery Leads, Portfolio Managers, Product Managers, and Lead Business Analysts, to deliver complex digital products. As part of the Technology Leadership team, you will balance the competing needs of different business areas and act as a bridge between business and technology strategies. Your leadership will inspire and cultivate a strong culture of performance, personal growth, and engagement within the team. By staying current with industry trends and best practices, you will lead the team towards operational efficiency and ensure that Bupa remains at the cutting edge of digital healthcare.

Your Contribution:

  •  Recruit, build, and lead a team of managers and developers across Sydney, Melbourne, and offshore locations, ensuring collaboration and high performance within Agile frameworks. 
  •  Manage the technical architecture, including .Net, Sitecore, React/Angular, and Azure cloud services, to deliver secure and high-quality applications. 
  •  Scope and estimate new projects, advising on technical design and ensuring consistent estimating methodologies across digital teams. 
  •  Collaborate with Delivery Leads, Portfolio Managers, Product Managers, and business stakeholders to deliver effective technology solutions that enhance customer experiences. 
  •  Foster strong relationships with the Central Technology and Architecture Office, aligning with global standards, reusing central assets, and leveraging digital accelerators. 
  •  Implement strategic improvements in application lifecycle management, security, audit, and change management. 
  • Manage risks and issues according to Bupa processes, ensuring technical teams comply with proper procedures. 
  •  Keep abreast of digital best practices, encourage team learning, and provide SME advice across the business. You will also represent the HI Domestic Retail team with a select group of your managers at the Engineering Council. 
  •  Leverage the ANZ technology strategy to create a technology roadmap for our domain, ensuring alignment with our target state architecture and standards. 
  •  Partner with our business to deliver complex digital products, promoting world-class engineering practices. 
  •  Address technical roadblocks and dependencies, providing prompt resolution and negotiation towards common outcomes. 
  •  Be part of the Technology Leadership team, balancing financial and people outcomes across business areas. 
  •  Demonstrate inspirational leadership, influencing at all levels, and fostering a culture of performance and collaboration. 
  •  Engage with the broader Engineering community, represent Bupa at external forums, and stay current with industry trends. 
  •  Drive operational efficiency by adopting modern technologies and processes, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining strong relationships. 
  •  Cultivate a positive team culture, encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, and oversee skills development. 
  •  Ensure the team is adequately resourced, conduct skills assessments, and facilitate professional development opportunities. 
  •  Promote cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing to maximize collective expertise. 
  •  Oversee quality assurance processes, conduct code reviews, and maintain performance metrics to measure effectiveness. 
  •  Manage the team's budget, identify cost optimization opportunities, and implement strategies to improve. 
  •  Facilitate effective communication within the team and with stakeholders and cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment.

Your Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification at degree level 
  •  At least 10+ years of experience in software engineering. 
  •  At least 5 years of experience managing a team of engineering manager direct reports. 
  •  Excellent track record in team management and development – evidence of having recruited and developed high performance horizontal teams, setting standards, and enabling strong practices 
  •  Strong commercial acumen and leadership skills 
  •  Deep software development experience across large enterprise-based projects with strong Digital experience 
  •  Expertise / experience across the full stack of technology with strong background in .Net, Sitecore (or other CMS), Frontend toolsets (HTML, CSS, JS, React, Angular, Node.js, etc), databases (e.g. SQL, Mongo) and Cloud services and automation (e.g. Azure, AWS). 
  •  Experience in application design and architecture 
  •  Experience with cloud services (Azure preferred) and DevOps processes for building and deploying applications in the cloud 
  •  Strong Agile mindset and experience (SAFe preferred) 
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills required 
  •  Substantial interpersonal and communication skills at all levels 
  •  Ability to think strategically and innovatively and interpret insights into actions 
  •  You are comfortable with ambiguity and can push forward with unproven ideas 
  •  You are a positive, supportive, and flexible individual with a can-do attitude and the ability to see the bigger picture
