The purpose of this job:

Our strategy involves optimising the business of today, while reimagining our data and analytics capabilities to support the future of health and wellbeing and growing the business of tomorrow.

Reporting to the Healthcare Intelligence Manager, the Data Scientist will play a key role in developing and deploying machine learning (ML) and statistical models to predict health, which drive strategic decision-making and improve operational efficiencies across Health Program, Hospital Funding, Claims Integrity and other Enterprise teams. The Data scientist will also collaborate with the Data Office to develop scalable modelling frameworks on the Azure Databricks platform as Bupa matures its analytics capabilities. The ideal candidate will leverage strong claims data understanding, ML & statistical methods, and industry knowledge to execute use cases across patient outcomes, healthcare trends and cost drivers.

What you’ll need to make it possible

  • Master’s degree in a highly quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, analytics) or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in data analytics roles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skill and administration of a curiosity to understand the business and develop innovative ideas to address problems and opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills - being able to both interpret and convey information in a clear, concise way with people from a technical and non-technical background and use data to tell a story.
  • A strong background in data science, analytics or data engineering with desired experience in a Healthcare industry or insurance setting.
  • Proficiency and experience in statistical modelling and machine learning techniques (feature engineering, regression, classification, segmentation, cross-validation, bootstrapping, Bayesian techniques etc.)

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Undertake and execute analytical approaches, such as developing/training/optimising machine learning models, other forms of analytical modelling (e.g., descriptive, predictive) and applied statistics.
  • Development of analytical solutions and working with the business to explore new technologies as they arise, creating end-to-end automation of machine learning solutions, where possible.
  • Lead in-house analytics projects and upskill people across Analytics Insights & Claims Integrity as appropriate.
  • Support the Healthcare Programs & Claims Innovation (HP&CI) Leadership team in its programme delivery through proactive engagement to deliver strategic and operational outcomes.
  • Support HP&CI in identifying trends and opportunities with a focus on generating meaningful, actionable insights for the business and utilising visualisation tools for automation and presentation of analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to identify their business problems and work with them to provide meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Apply your broad skillset across data and analytics to develop and implement analytical models to support key business areas such as fraud, waste and abuse, behaviour change, contract management, modelling and prediction through to interventions and health programs.
  • Compile insights and recommendations into clear, concise deliverables for internal business partners, derive insights from data and communicate those insights to a non-technical audience through presentations and documentation.
