 What’s your role? 

The Health Care Platform Clinical SME plays a critical role in embedding clinical insight into the design and delivery of connected, data-driven health solutions. Working within the Clinical Innovation team of the Customer & Transformation Office (C&TO), this role acts as a key interface between clinicians, technology partners, and digital product squads, ensuring interoperability, safety, and usability are integrated from the outset. This role is ideal for an AHPRA-registered health professional with strong technical literacy and experience with digital health platforms, interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR), and primary care systems such as Best Practice or Halo Connect.

This is a permanent full-time position based. With Bupa’s flexible hybrid working arrangements, you’ll have the option to work from home or the office. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Clinical-Technical Translation: Bridge clinical and technical teams by translating clinical needs into digital solution requirements and ensuring alignment with real world care workflows.
  • Interoperability & Standards: Advise on digital health interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR, SNOMED CT, HL7) and integration of clinical systems such as Best Practice or Halo Connect.
  • Digital Product & Solution Design: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to shape digital tools, map user journeys, and validate clinical functionality.
  • Clinical Governance & Data Integrity: Ensure solutions meet clinical governance, privacy, and regulatory standards, and support data quality, safety, and risk management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Act as a liaison between internal teams and external tech partners to deliver pragmatic, user centred solutions.
  • Professional Contribution: Stay up to date with digital health trends, contribute to innovation initiatives, and champion safe, ethical, and impactful use of health data and technology.

What you will bring to the role

  • AHPRA-registered health professional with recent or current clinical experience.
  • Proven experience with digital health systems (e.g., Best Practice, Halo Connect, EMRs).
  • Strong understanding of clinical interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED CT, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams bridging clinical and technical domains.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, able to translate complex concepts across disciplines.
  • Desirable: Experience in digital product development, clinical informatics, or health IT implementation.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of health data governance, privacy, and information security frameworks.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with agile delivery methods and product lifecycle management in health settings.
