The opportunity


We have a great opportunity for a Legal Adviser – Property, Leasing and Development to join Bupa on a 12-month fixed term contract.


You will provide legal advice and support for leasing, property transactions, development and construction, as well as commercial matters related to Health Services across Bupa APAC.

This is a Melbourne based role with hybrid working arrangements.

How will you make an impact?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal advice, reviewing, drafting, negotiating leasing documents across Bupa APAC (including retail and commercial leasing) including managing sign off and registration requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with Bupa’s leasing and governance standards
  • Managing a leasing portfolio and maintaining stakeholder relationships and communications with the internal property team
  • Providing legal advice, reviewing, drafting and negotiating construction arrangements
  • Assisting with property acquisitions and projects (including due diligence, drafting/negotiation of transaction documents)
  • Participating in the implementation of legal technology tools in the property legal space
  • Providing regular updates on the latest developments in property and leasing legislation
  • Supporting with legal reporting for the Bupa APAC Board and Leadership Teams
  • Developing relationships and collaborating with various business stakeholders.

What do I need?

  • Minimum 4+ years relevant post admission experience in-house or in private practice
  • Law degree from an Australian or international university
  • A current relevant practising certificate in a state Supreme Court or the High Court of Australia
  • Experience in providing property, commercial and contracting legal advice  
  • A working understanding of construction law
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to take the initiative and confidently manage allocated matters
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice
  • Retail leasing experience is highly desirable
