Be at the heart of it!

We have a clear ambition to be the world's most customer-centric healthcare company. To bring our ambition to life, we’re evolving how we do things to create value for our customers now and into the future. Our global mission is to help our customers live healthier and happier lives. Just imagine the impact you could make!

We’re looking for a Risk Manager – Technology Operations and Architecture to join our Technology Risk team. You’ll play a critical role in providing second line oversight and independent challenge across technology operations and architecture domains. Reporting to the Risk Lead – Technology Operations and Architecture, you’ll help shape risk practices that support resilience, transformation, and secure operations across Bupa’s technology landscape.

This role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne. Bupa offers a hybrid working environment, with 2 days in office per week and the remainder from home.

How will you make an impact?

You’ll be a trusted advisor and risk partner to technology leaders—providing credible challenge, conducting targeted risk assessments, and helping ensure our architecture and operations are resilient, secure, and aligned with regulatory expectations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide second line oversight and independent challenge over technology risk activities, focusing on infrastructure, service management, enterprise architecture, and cloud operations.
  • Review and challenge key technology initiatives, architecture roadmaps, and platform transformations for inherent and residual risks.
  • Monitor risk metrics and KRIs, escalating areas of concern and producing high-quality risk reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct thematic and targeted risk assessments across cloud architecture, IT operations, resilience, and network design.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and root cause analyses for major IT service disruptions.
  • Review and challenge remediation plans related to technology issues and audit findings.
  • Support the Technology Risk Line 2 team and contribute to risk committee briefings and governance activities.

About You

You’re a proactive risk professional with strong analytical skills and a passion for technology. You thrive in complex environments and enjoy influencing outcomes that improve resilience and reduce risk exposure. You’re confident communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences and bring a collaborative mindset to everything you do.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Experience in risk advisory, audit, or compliance within technology environments
  • Strong understanding of technology risk frameworks and standards (ISO, NIST, ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF)
  • Strong working knowledge of PCI compliance and experience coordinating assurance activities with independent organisations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence outcomes.
  • Attention to detail and analytical mindset, with strong prioritisation capabilities in complex environments.
  • Experience working in Line 1 or Line 2 risk roles, ideally in regulated industries such as insurance, telecom, retail, or Big 4 consulting.
  • Proven ability to partner with technology teams on topics such as cloud, AI, and enterprise architecture.
  • Solid understanding of APRA regulatory requirements, particularly in the context of APAC operations.
  • ISACA certifications (CRISC, CISA, CISM) highly regarded.
