Reporting to the Senior Manager- Public Policy and Advocacy this role supports the Public Affairs team to leverage strategic relationships with government and related stakeholders. As a Public Affairs Advisor you will execute advocacy and engagement strategies which support Bupa’s commercial success, drive sector-level reforms and strengthen our corporate reputation.

This role focuses on organising and supporting stakeholder engagement, as well as undertaking research, analysis to produce high quality policy submissions, briefing materials and other internal and external communications.

How will I help?

  • Support the reputation and management of issues for Bupa through contributing to the development and implementation of detailed stakeholder engagement plans and management of stakeholder engagement and advocacy in line with strategy
  • Effectively monitor activity across industry and State and Federal governments to ensure the business has timely advice and is alert to relevant issues or events
  • Supporting the Public Affairs team on policy and advocacy priorities aligned with strategy
  • Undertake research and data analysis to underpin advocacy efforts
  • Assist with researching and drafting briefing notes to support leaders in their meetings with stakeholders
  • Coordinating external and internal engagement activities, monitoring and reporting of external engagement, tracking against engagement plans and drafting of regular internal updates
  • Draft briefing notes and summaries of significant reports, announcements, proposals etc for senior leaders
  • Assist with producing high quality government and industry policy submissions on behalf of Bupa
  • Advise and assist the Public Affairs team with the preparation of presentations, speeches, positions papers, briefings, situation analyses, reports and other communications as required.

What do I need?

To excel in this role, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge of government, policy and the Australian political system, including workings of political parties, and have strong administration abilities with well-developed analytical, research and communication skills. You bring a proactive mindset, are comfortable working independently and as part of a team to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

Knowledge of government and legislative processes or health policy and regulation will be an advantage. You will have a degree level qualification in health or public policy, business, communications or similar areas and experience working in government or public policy and advocacy organisations, or in stakeholder relations.

You will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, exercising discretion and judgement with the ability to distil complex information into clear, concise advice for senior leaders and compelling content for different audiences.
