Why I love supporting Bupa’s RN graduate program
As a Quality Education Manager in Bupa Aged Care, Noel supports graduate RNs develop their confidence and careers.
"I started working as a registered nurse (RN) in 2011. Originally, I wanted to be a theatre nurse, but when I started in aged care, I realised not only how rewarding the work is, but how many opportunities it offers. Compared to acute care, aged care nursing provides so many ways to gain skills across a range of roles and advance your career quickly.
I worked in a few organisations, and what I loved was building rapport and trust with residents and their loved ones. They become like family.
In 2018 I decided to specialise in education – I really like being a mentor, and helping people learn and grow. My current role is to support all the RNs that are part of the RN Graduate program. I regularly check in with them, and ensure they have what they need to be successful. Many of our grads have never worked in aged care before, so having someone ask anything of is part of what makes this program so successful.
If you want an opportunity to quickly develop your career, where you're supported every step of the way, this program is for you.
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing how the grads develop their confidence and skills. Having seen them from the initial interview stage, through the induction and skills assessments, to now, just 6 weeksinto the program, I can see an enormous change. At the beginning they were anxious and unsure, now they’re advising staff, talking to residents, and already making a big difference.
It’s important to me to be in a place where the culture places a high value on making people feel safe and appreciated. The most consistent feedback I hear from our grads is how the induction really helped them to understand the theory and make the practical side much easier, and how they love having someone to go to with any questions.
This program will strengthen your leadership and clinical skills and fast-track your career, while making a difference in people’s lives."
The Registered Nurse Graduate Program provides a mentoring and supportive environment for you as a newly registered nurses to develop your skills and knowledge. You'll get plenty of opportunities to springboard your career and keep building your experience for further career development.
