The Opportunity

Bupa has embarked on an exciting new program to evolve its Healthcare Purchasing Plan (HPP), towards being the preferred partner of choice for healthcare providers. As the Head of Health Transformation, reporting to the General Manager of Hospital & Medical Partnerships (HMP), in this newly created role, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of the HMP component within the Healthcare Management (HCM) Strategy. This senior leadership role involves shaping strategies, driving detailed planning and innovation, and optimising network performance to achieve high-impact outcomes. You will guide the Health Transformation team to deliver meaningful results through a hypothesis-led approach and effective collaboration with commercial teams and partners, including private hospitals.

Collaboration is key to this role’s success. You will work closely with the Engagement & Contracting Managers, Head of Commercial, and Head of Healthcare Funding to ensure cohesive execution and elevate discussions from an operational to a strategic level. This position is critical to Bupa’s Health Insurance (HI) business, contributing to the Sustained Performance pillar and aligning with our global strategic goals of Customers, Growth, and Transformation.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead strategy development and implementation for the HMP segment of the Healthcare Management and Hospital Sustainability Programs.
  • Formulate and execute plans for network optimization, innovation, and  contracting with medical specialists.
  • Track and report on transformation initiatives, recommending adjustments to address barriers and ensure timely achievement of goals.
  • Oversee strategic planning across HMP, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
  • Drive key initiatives within the Hospital Sustainability Program, including efficiency improvements and homecare partnerships.
  • Ensure strong governance and accountability for all initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the Health Transformation team, fostering innovation and high performance.
  • Champion customer and provider experience, overseeing the Hospital Engagement Framework.
  • Promote continuous improvement and drive a culture of excellence across HMP.

Skills and Experience 

  • Substantial experience at a top tier strategy or transformation firm at a Senior Manager level or equivalent in-house experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance (required); post-graduate qualification (e.g., MBA, CA, CPA) preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience driving strategic change, influencing stakeholders, and applying innovative thinking.
  • Experience leading strategy and transformation, preferably in healthcare or private health insurance.
  • Strong understanding of the private healthcare sector and regulatory environment.
  • Ability to translate strategy into tangible outcomes with enterprise-wide thinking.
  • Excellent prioritization, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on business models and organizational design.
  • Proven leadership in building high-performing teams, coaching for development, and achieving results.
  • Adaptability in ambiguous environments and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Collaborative, empathetic, and empowering leadership qualities.
