How will you make an impact?
As Principal UI Designer, you’ll provide senior leadership in UI design across Bupa’s web ecosystem. You’ll shape strategic design vision, guide craft quality, and ensure consistency across digital portfolios.
You’ll partner with product, engineering, research, and content teams to define UI architecture, evolve design standards, and embed enabling platforms. Your leadership will help deliver scalable, inclusive, and customer-centred experiences.
This role reports to the Head of Design Capabilities and is being offered as a permanent full-time opportunity. The role can be based in greater Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney, with hybrid working arrangements (a mix of working from home and in-office collaboration)
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Define and communicate a strategic UI design vision that aligns with business goals and drives enterprise value.
- Lead UI design across digital portfolios, setting standards that reduce duplication, improve delivery efficiency, and lift experience quality at scale.
- Shape and govern UI frameworks, patterns, and architectural models for scalable, accessible, and coherent experiences.
- Champion usability, accessibility, and inclusive design practices across all products and platforms.
- Foster a strong design community by leading Communities of Practice, sharing knowledge, and supporting career growth.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and platform teams to integrate UI design into delivery and enterprise systems.
- Ensure alignment with enabling platforms like design systems, content models, and accessibility frameworks for scalability.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies, continuously evolving UI design standards and practices.
About you
You’re a seasoned design leader with a passion for creating exceptional user experiences and shaping strategic design direction. You combine deep expertise in UI frameworks and accessibility with strong leadership skills, guiding teams and influencing enterprise-level decisions. You thrive in complex environments, balancing business goals with customer needs, and you’re confident in driving design excellence across portfolios.
Key skills & experience required:
- 10+ years of experience in product, mobile, or UI design roles, including leadership across large-scale programs.
- Proven expertise in UI frameworks, systems, architecture, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2).
- Strong leadership in design strategy, portfolio alignment, and mentoring senior designers.
- Advanced skills in user research, information architecture, and design thinking methodologies.
- Experience with agile delivery and multidisciplinary collaboration in complex environments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills to influence decisions.
- Commercial acumen and customer-centric mindset, balancing business outcomes with user needs.
