We have a permanent opportunity for a Senior Core Systems Engineer to join our health Insurance Technology team. You’ll ensure that Bupa Core Systems, specifically BOSS (Branch Online Support System), are maintained and enhanced within an integrated technology stack to achieve increased automation, speed to market, leveraging of available tools, and constant innovation. You’ll  also be responsible for critically reviewing development practices, exploring new technologies, and advocating for and initiating meaningful change. 

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

Note: This is not a Mainframe system – Extensive Unix/Solaris experience is required. 

  • Require a tertiary qualification in an IT discipline or related field or extensive professional experience in Applications Systems solution delivery. 
  • Expert in COBOL Software Development for monolithic & critical core systems. 
  • Experience in Unix based operating systems that includes command line fluency & advanced scripting knowledge 
  • Familiarity with Micro Focus/Rocket Software products including Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2023, Solaris COBOL Runtime and the Micro Focus Analyzer. 
  • Familiarity and/or previous professional experience in the Australia Health Insurance Industry. 
  • Experience in third party technologies such as Control-M, Postman, COSORT and Service Now, is also beneficial. 
  • Exposure to or demonstrated experience in additional languages such as Python, Web Service technology, C family, and ability to explore new languages as needed to achieve the goals of this role. 
  • Experience in GIT integrated with Azure DevOps (Pipeline & Release Management) for code reviews, continuous integration & continuous delivery pipelines. 
  • Solid Oracle DB and PL/SQL experience. 
  • Quality Orientation – Accomplishing tasks through concern for areas involved, no matter how small; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks. 
  • Excellent team player with a desire and willingness to adopt change & lead by example. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential, including stakeholder engagement across the Health Insurance business and technology.
