An exciting, 12-month fixed term opportunity has become availablefor a Senior Data Engineer.
The Data Engineering Team is a centralised technology team of specialist skills which enables Bupa ANZ to execute on its Data Strategy. Collectively, we are working to build the future state of Bupa’s data platforms on Microsoft Azure services, and to enable the business to work strategically with data to maximise competitive performance. Our Data Engineers contribute to the evolution of Bupa’s data estate via squad, project, and business partnering approaches.
At Bupa ANZ, Senior Data Engineers have a broad skill set, and work across various Data Services including Operational Data and Analytics, Data Warehouse and BI, Advanced Analytics and Self-service, and across different business units including Health Insurance, Health Services, and corporate functions.
The Senior Data Engineer designs and delivers solutions aligned to our various Data Services across a range of technologies. They also play an important contributing role in the definition of Standards and guidelines. They are also a key contributor towards the engineering practices of the team.
As a senior member of the team, you are expected to provide technical mentorship to other team members, lead workshops, coach squads/team on engineering practices, and play a role in Engineering governance aspects.
What will I be doing?
- Support the Domain Lead Engineer in providing thought leadership and consulting to business stakeholders around the use of data and data technology
- Work directly with the business in understanding detailed data requirements and translating the requirements into the form of Epics, Features, and Stories, that technical deliver teams can understand and build from
- Lead and produce estimation of effort for the delivery of stories
- Lead team level design and code review processes
- Produce detailed design deliverables based on established architectures and design standards
- Identify and contribute to the evolution of data design standards, guidelines, frameworks, and practices
- Engineering of data pipelines from data acquisition and ingestion though the data lake, various means of consumption including, reports, dashboards, applications, models, and API’s
Engineering of data features in support of advanced analytical processes and data science teams
Requirements for the role:
- 5 to 10 years’ experience as a software or data engineer
- Cloud Data Platform experience in AZURE preferred, but AWS & GCP also considered
- DataBricks & Spark background preferred, but SQL server also considered.
- Expert level SQL/TSQL and Python
- Experience in SAS Code
- Advanced CI/CD experience
- Advanced engineering practices
- Use of Github Copilot, Microsoft Copilot or DataBrick Copilot desired
- Experience running code reviews.
- Experience mentoring engineers for skill development
- Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Strong presentation and communication skills
